SANDAKPHU TREK AT
DARJEELING REGION

Day 01 |
|
Bagdogra to
Darjeeling
Leave for Darjeeling via Kurseong and break journey for
refreshments at Kurseong.The journey will take 4 hrs
following along side world famous small gauge rail track
of Darjeeling Toy Train. This train made its first
maiden trip in September 1881. Puffing along the two
foot gauge track, the gradient of which stays at a
maximum of 1 to 20, the train passes through a region,
the sheer beauty of which it starts to manifest itself
as soon as one begins the journey. UNESCO has declared
this train as World Heritage |
Day 02 |

Darjeeling Sight Seeing
After breakfast visit the Japanese Temple Himalayan
Mountaineering Institute, the Zoo, Tibetan Refugee Self
Help Centre and Happy Valley Tea Estate. After Lunch
visit the Ghoom Monastery. Evening free to explore the
market.

Day 03 |

Darjeeling/ Maneybhanjyang/ Tonglu
Drive to
Maneybhanjyang (2134m), ( 1 1/2 hrs), the starting point
of the trek. The days walk , about 06 hrs , is uphill
and the trail passes through small village of
Chitre and
forests of Rhododendrons and Magnolias. The camping area
at Tonglu ( 3020m)
is located on
a hill top over looking the Sikkim Himalayas. Overnight
at Tonglu. |
Day 04 |

Tonglu / Kalpokhri
This is also a pleasant walk through the forest which is
home to the rare Red Panda and the Tragopan. After about
05 hrs the camping area of Kalapokhri (3100 m) is
reached, where we spend the night.

Day 05 |
|
Kalpokhri / Sandakphu
After breakfast , start the trek to Sandakphu (3636m)
which takes about 06 hrs. Sandakphu is the place to view
the mountains.On a clear day one can see the peaks of
Lhotse( 8501m), Everest( 8848m) and Makalu(8475m)
of the Nepal Himalayas and the huge
Kanchenjunga massif (8586m) along with other peaks of
the Sikkim himalayas.Overnight at Sandakphu. |
Day 06 |

Sandakphu / Phalut
The trail is along a ridge and can be considered as one
of the most enjoyable and scenic walks in the Himalayas.
The whole range of snowy peaks is always in view and the
trail passes through high altitude vegetation and areas
of dwarf rhododendrons and firs. The walk
to Phalut(3600m) is about 07 hours. Overnight
at Phalut. |
Day 07 |

Phalut / Rammam
Early morning walk up to Phalut Top to view the sunrise
over the himalayas. After breakfast start trek to Rammam
(2560m) which takes about 05 hrs. The trail passes
through the villages of Gorkhey and Samanden and the
forest provides ample oppurtunities for bird
sightsighting. Overnight at Rammam.

Day 08 |

Rammam /
Rimbik:
From Rammam the trail descends (6 hours) to the
bridge at Sirikhola and passes through a number of
small villages to reach Rimbik (2280m), the road
head. Overnight at Rimbick. |
Day 09 |
|
Rimbik / Gangtok
After breakfast drive to Gangtok via Mungpoo and
Rangpo.
While half way
you arrive at a place called Rangpo, this is the
entry point to Sikkim. You will have to fulfill the
entry formalities against your special permit to
tour around Sikkim, which may take about some time
then continue the drive to Gangtok.
