Monasteries,159 Mani Lhakhangs, 21 Lhakangs,11 Tsamkhangs or
Mediation Centre, 35 Chortens or Stupas and Stone Carved
Mendangs,1 Bon Gompa. Sikkim has the highest number of
monasteries in India belonging to different sects and the major
one is the Rumtek Dharma Chakra Centre, the seat of the Kagyu
Order, which was built in 1960 after the arrival of his Holiness
the 16th Gyalwa Karmapa.
